The area around the bus garage in West Norwood operated by ARRIVA is separated in three different patches that run along Ernest Avenue, Knights Hill and Rothschild Street.
This used to be unloved and neglected land of no specific use for anybody and was at some stage covered up by a geotextile layer and heavily mulched over to prevent plant growth in general.
In 2015 a group of local volunteers, lead by Wayne Trevor approached the OPEN WORKS, an initiative run by Lambeth council with a proposal to turn the neglected strips of land into a community garden for food growing and enhancement of biodiversity.
The ARRIVA management was very supportive to this idea and a good relationship was established with the group of volunteers.
The group of locals meets regularly on a Sunday morning between 10am and 12pm wind and weather permitting to do all sorts of works like weeding, maintaning, planting and chatting.
The positive vibes you get from people passing by is very uplifing and we all enjoy being outside.
Everybody is welcome. Just pop by one Sunday morning.
It would be recommendable to join our WhatsApp group to find out if the regular session is on as we like the occasional break as well.
